Come together with liberty loving friends in Burlington, NC on April 9-11, 2010 for the annual Libertarian Party of North Carolina State Convention,. This year's theme is A Prescription for Liberty.
At this year's convention, delegates will consider changes to the LPNC Platform, elect a several members to the Executive Committee, and select delegates to the 2010 National Convention that will be held in St. Louis, MO on May 29-31, 2010.
The action begins with a Friday evening "Friends and Family" gathering. Come to share food and drink and fun with fellow Libertarians, catch up with friends from around the state, put faces with names you might have seen on our email discussion lists, and just relax and party a bit before we get down to business early Saturday morning.
Saturday business includes the State of the Party address, Platform Committee report, and several speaker presentations. Sunday morning we will elect five At-Large members of the Executive Committee, choose delegates to the National Convention in St. Louis, and finish business with electing a new Judicial Committee.
Our guest speaker at the Saturday evening banquet will be Wes Benedict, the recently hired Executive Director at the national office, who will share his thoughts on "How Libertarians Make a Difference." Mr. Benedict previously served as Executive Director of the Libertarian Party of Texas. There he broke records and made Texas the best performing state Libertarian Party chapter by most measures, against a trend of declining performance of the LP nationwide. He recruited a record 173 LP candidates for office in Texas for the November 2008 elections, which was 29% of the nationwide LP total. He holds an MBA from the University of Michigan and a Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Texas.
Register for the convention today. You must register by April 5, 2010 to guarantee a meal.
The site of the convention is the Quality Inn in Burlington, NC. (Formerly La Quinta, same location as the 2009 convention.)
You may make your reservations at the Quality Inn by calling 336-229-5203. Be sure to mention you are with the Libertarian Convention in order to receive the group rate of $69.99 (plus tax) per night.
See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay, for it is not only an evil itself, but also it is a fertile source for further evils because it invites reprisals. -- Frédéric Bastiat
